On Wednesday 8th July 2026, the energy industry will come together for a day that is about far more than golf.

The Industry Invitational, held at Cookridge Hall Golf Club, has been created to support Craig Dunn, his partner Nabela, and their young daughter Serena, following Craig's diagnosis with a rare and aggressive brain tumour.

For many across the industry, Craig is much more than a familiar name. Over the years, he has built genuine friendships with colleagues, suppliers, consultancies and clients throughout the UK energy sector. Known for his kindness, professionalism and willingness to help others, Craig has made a lasting impact on countless people during his career, including our Group Managing Director, Kieran Dixon, who wanted to get Smarta Energy involved.

Now, the industry has an opportunity to come together and support one of its own.

Craig's Story

In 2018, Craig became seriously ill with sepsis and underwent emergency surgery; following this, he was unable to obtain life insurance due to his medical history. In May 2025, after suffering persistent headaches, Craig was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer that is exceptionally uncommon in adults.

Following major brain surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, Craig faced his treatment with remarkable strength and determination, always focusing on what mattered most: his family, including his little girl Serena, and partner Nabela.

Sadly, just ten months later, the tumour returned. Further investigations confirmed that the cancer had become highly aggressive and had spread to his spine.

Craig and his family have now been told there is no curative treatment available. His focus today is on spending precious time with Nabela and Serena, creating memories that will last a lifetime, including creating a series of videos with the Smarta Marketing team that Serena can look back on as she grows.

More Than a Charity Golf Day

The Industry Invitational isn't simply a golf tournament. It's an opportunity for colleagues, competitors, clients and friends from across the energy industry to stand together in support of Craig and his family.

Throughout the day, teams will enjoy a fantastic programme of golf, fundraising and networking, while helping raise vital funds to ease some of the financial pressures facing the family.

One Industry. One Community. One Incredible Cause.

The Industry Invitational is a reminder that the energy sector is more than just business. It's a community built on relationships, friendship and support.

On 8th July, that community will come together to celebrate Craig, stand beside his family and create a day that will be remembered for all the right reasons. We look forward to welcoming everyone to Cookridge Hall for what promises to be a truly special occasion.

Proudly supported by SGH Events and Smarta Energy.

A message from Smarta Energy.

Cancer has a way of changing what matters in an instant. It reminds us that the moments we often take for granted are, in fact, life's greatest gifts, as cheesy as that sounds; it's true.

The conversations over breakfast, with mouths stuffed with food, the laughter that echoes across a golf course, the playful rivalry between friends that edges on the border of being a bit too serious, the celebration of a great shot that others swear isn't that good, even the stories shared over a barbecue long after the final putt has been made.

These are the moments that stay with us, the moments we hold onto, that spark stories to be retold time and time again.

While the funds raised through the Industry Invitational will provide vital support for Craig, Nabela and Serena, we hope this day offers something just as valuable: the opportunity to create memories that those close to Craig can hold onto in the years to come. Moments that will spark a smile or a story to be shared.

For one day, we hope the focus isn't on hospitals or treatment plans, but on friendship, laughter and simply being together.

At Smarta Energy, we are incredibly proud to stand alongside our industry in supporting Craig and his family. We hope everyone who joins us leaves having made a difference, not only through their generosity, but through the memories they help create.

Because in the end, it is those moments of joy, shared with the people we love, that become life's most precious gifts.
